UC Davis to Host First Gathering of King Hall Alumni on the Bench

On October 24 and 25, 2008, members of the UC Davis School of Law's Judicial Alumni Association (King Hall Alumni on the Bench) will meet in Davis to launch the association, participate in valuable panel discussions, and enjoy one another's company.

Participating in the event will be the following members of the Alumni on the Bench steering committee:

  • The Honorable Judy Hersher, Superior Court of Sacramento County
  • The Honorable Gordon S. Baranco, Superior Court of Alameda County
  • The Honorable Mary Fingal Schulte, Superior Court of Orange County
  • The Honorable Dale L. Ikeda, Superior Court of Fresno County
  • The Honorable Joan K. Irion, Associate Justice, California Courts of Appeal (Fourth Appellate District)
  • The Honorable Loren E. McMaster, Superior Court of Sacramento County
  • The Honorable David Rosenberg, Superior Court of Yolo County
  • The Honorable Nancy Wieben Stock, Superior Court of Orange County
  • The Honorable Rebecca Wiseman, Associate Justice, California Courts of Appeal (Fifth Appellate District)

In addition to the steering committee members, panelists will include current UC Davis faculty members. Professor Emeritus Cruz Reynoso, a former California Supreme Court Justice and civil rights expert, will speak alongside Judge McMaster, discussing the judge's role in encouraging attorneys to follow the new state bar guidelines on civility and professionalism. Professor Albert Lin will discuss the evolving role of judges in overseeing expert testimony, while Professors Floyd Feeney and Courtney Joslin will speak on marriage for same-sex couples in California.

The main events will take place Saturday, October 25. They will include tours of the UC Davis Genome Center, where alumni will view two Illumina Genome Analyzers in operation, each of which can sequence 600 mb of DNA per day; and the brand new Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, which holds its grand opening on October 10. The institute will provide UC Davis, already a leader in the areas of viticulture, enology, and food sciences, state-of-the-art facilities in which to work.

The Alumni on the Bench Association was created to serve as a resource for members of the King Hall community and to promote continued education for California judges. All association members are graduates of UC Davis School of Law.
