Steve Boutin '72 Honored as Sacramento Bar Association's 2015 Distinguished Attorney of the Year
Steve Boutin '72 has been honored as the Sacramento Bar Association's 2015 Distinguished Attorney of the Year.
Boutin, a shareholder at Boutin Jones in Sacramento, is also the subject of a cover story in the latest issue of Sacramento Lawyer, the SCBA magazine. The article describes his meeting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a student at Occidental College, his work with Downey Brand after graduating from UC Davis School of Law, his founding of the firm that became Boutin Jones, his wide-ranging volunteer work with organizations including Pride Industries, the Crocker Art Museum, and the UC Davis School of Law Alumni Association, and other achievements.
Dean Kevin R. Johnson is quoted in the article praising Boutin for his community service, which has included planning and funding charity events for the School of Law, working to help establish the Central Valley Foundation/James B. McClatchy Lecture on the First Amendment, and providing scholarships for King Hall students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
"He is such an admired figure at the School of Law that when the King Hall Legal Foundation, which funds student public service projects, decided to host a fundraising golf tournament, they named it after Steve Boutin," said Dean Johnson. "The legal community has benefitted immensely from his leadership, as has the Sacramento community at large."
