Senior Associate Dean Afsharipour, Professor Miazad Participate in Independent Director Initiative

Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Afra Afsharipour and Professor Amelia Miazad participated in an Aug. 16-17 meeting in Berkeley as part of the Independent Director Initiative.

The Independent Director Initiative is a program designed to train, and help place, individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in venture capital to serve as independent directors on the boards of venture-backed private companies.

Afsharipour was part of the panel “Board Overview; Director Duties; The Independent Director.”  Miazad addressed ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues in a breakout session.

UC Davis School of Law is an academic partner to the program.

Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor Afra Afsharipour’s areas of research include comparative corporate law and governance, mergers and acquisitions, and transactional law.  Her scholarship has appeared in numerous law reviews, including the Columbia Law Review, the Minnesota Law Review, the Vanderbilt Law Review, and the UC Davis Law Review. 

Professor Amelia Miazad is an expert on the nexus between corporate law and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Professor Miazad’s work has been published in the Vanderbilt Law Review, Minnesota Law Review and UC Davis Law Review, among other leading reviews and journals. Before coming to Davis, Professor Miazad was a Senior Research Fellow at UC Berkeley School of Law. At Berkeley Law, Professor Miazad founded and led the Business in Society Institute.
