Scott Lay '00 Remembered for Political Savvy, Education Advocacy

The UC Davis Law community is saddened by the passing of Scott Lay ’00, an astute political observer, education advocate and a proud holder of two UC Davis degrees. Lay died in September at age 48.

Lay worked for nearly 20 years for the Community College League of California, including eight years as president and CEO. But he was perhaps best known for his political newsletters, including The Nooner, a must-read on both sides of the aisle at the Capitol and for thousands of California politics watchers.

The Law Students Association president while at King Hall, Lay also attended UC Davis as an undergraduate, earning a degree in political science in 1997. He was a fixture for many years at campus events.

UC Davis College of Letters and Science published an in-memoriam tribute to Lay. Capitol Weekly, for whom Lay once wrote a daily email digest called The Roundup, also published a tribute, as did the Los Angeles Times and Sacramento Bee.
