Rex Hime '72 Receives Cal Aggie Alumni Award
Rex Hime '72 received the 2007 Cal Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA) Jerry W. Fielder Memorial Award. The award honors a UC Davis graduate in recognition of service to the CAAA, the UC Davis Foundation, and the university. He will be honored at an awards ceremony on January 27, 2007, at Freeborn Hall.
For over 16 years Hime, a Cal Aggie Alumni Association life member, has held an official volunteer position with the university. He has sat on both the UC Davis Foundation board and the CAAA board, and has served the alumni association as vice president and president.
While chairing the CAAA Legislative Relations Committee, Hime laid the groundwork for the creation of AggieAdvocates, a volunteer organization that lobbies on behalf of UC Davis. Although Hime is no longer on the CAAA board, he remains involved with AggieAdvocates by attending UC's annual legislative conference, UC Day, each winter.
Hime is a founding member of the Sac Aggies Club and helped to create the current format for the Causeway Classic Lunch. He has donated to the Law School Annual Fund, the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center Capital Campaign, and the CAAA Scholarship Endowment, to name only three, and is vice president of the Greater Sacramento Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Currently, he is the president and chief executive officer of the California Business Properties Association--a position that has given him considerable expertise in California politics, which he has used to advantage for the university.
Each year, CAAA recognizes the professional accomplishments of six UC Davis graduates at their awards ceremony. The Jerry Fielder Memorial Award was established in 1973 to perpetuate the lifelong interests of one of the university's most esteemed and supportive alumni, Jerry W. Fielder '39 (1915-1972). Specific criteria used during the selection process include 1) service to UC Davis, 2) service to the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, and 3) service to the UC Davis Foundation.
Other Law School recipients of the Jerry Fielder Memorial Award are 2005 Norm Weil '73, J.D. '76 (2005 recipient) and Tom Stallard '68, J.D. '75 with Meg Stallard '68 (2004 recipients).
