Ray '11, Yang '11, Ingram '12, Bettencourt '12 Win Negotiations Competition
The teams of Rachel Ray '11 and Jesse Yang '11 and Joanna Cuevas Ingram '12 and Anthony Bettencourt '12 triumphed in the 4th Annual King Hall Negotiations Competition on September 19, earning the right to represent UC Davis School of Law at the American Bar Association Regional Negotiations Competition at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in November.
Fifty-eight King Hall students competed and nearly 30 volunteers from the legal community observed the student negotiators and provided feedback. All teams competed in two rounds before lunch, and the top four teams advanced to the final round in the afternoon. This year's problem, provided by the American Bar Association, concerned intellectual property. In addition to winners Ray, Yang, Ingram, and Bettencourt, also making the final round were the teams of Marta Vanegas '11 and Ariana Zimbouski '11 and Pajmon Zarrineghbal '12 and Fauzia Ghori '12.
Professor Donna Shestowsky, who teaches Negotiation Strategy and coaches King Hall negotiations teams, offered congratulations to the winners and praised the work of the Negotiations Board members who organized the event. "The Negotiations Board worked incredibly hard, under the leadership of Ali Goff and Jesse Suarez, to make this event a great success," said Professor Shestowsky. "We received many compliments on the organization of the event and the quality of the competitors. It was our best event yet."
Among those volunteering their time and offering feedback to the competitors were Sacramento Superior Court Judge Jaime Roman, Sacramento Superior Judge Stacy Boulware Eurie '95, 2009 World Negotiations Competition Champions Sarah McBride '09 and Jeff Osofsky ‘09, the founders of the Negotiations Board Micah Nilsson '07 and Chris Hughes ‘07, past-president of the King Hall Negotiations Board Jeremiah Harvey '10, Professors Rex Perschbacher, John Hunt, Clay Tanaka, and Rachana Shah, and International Programs Director Beth Greenwood.
