Racism in Immigration Laws no Longer Can Be Ignored, Dean Johnson Writes in The Hill

The American Bar Association has called for an investigation by the U.S. government into the influence of racism and xenophobia on the enforcement of immigration laws. “This is a stunning development by a mainstream group of lawyers; the ABA’s actions warrant our full attention,” Dean Kevin R. Johnson and Vanderbilt Law Professor Karla McKanders write in a Feb. 25 op-ed for The Hill headlined “Systemic racism is rooted in immigration laws – it can no longer be ignored.” Read the op-ed.

Kevin R. Johnson is the law school’s dean, Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and professor of Chicana/o studies at UC Davis. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
