Professors Amar, Brownstein Write About University Encampments and the First Amendment

Constitutional law scholars Professor Vikram Amar and Professor Emeritus Alan Brownstein wrote a May 2 essay for Justia’s Verdict about why even peaceful expressive encampments at universities are not immune from restrictions.

Vikram Amar, one of the nation's most eminent and frequently cited authorities in constitutional law, federal courts, and civil procedure,  holds the Daniel J. Dykstra Endowed Chair at UC Davis School of Law. He returned to UC Davis as a distinguished professor of law in 2023 after serving for eight years as dean and Iwan Foundation Professor of Law at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Law. 

Professor Brownstein, a nationally recognized constitutional law scholar, taught Constitutional Law, Law and Religion, and Torts at UC Davis School of Law for more than 30 years. Before his retirement from full-time teaching, he held the Boochever and Bird Endowed Chair for the Study and Teaching of Freedom and Equality.
