Professor White Comments on Inmate's Attempted Suicide for Appeal-Democrat

Professor Carter "Cappy" White commented for the Appeal-Democrat on the attempted suicide of an inmate in the Yuba County Jail on October 26. Professor White said that the UC Davis School of Law Civil Rights Clinic is looking into the matter "to make sure that emergencies are being addressed in an appropriate and timely manner" at the jail.

Information regarding specific details of the incident has not been made public, but White said that the Clinic has received reports that some of the areas of the jail lack adequate warning systems or call buttons. "We believe it is important that if any inmate suicide attempt can be prevented, it should be," White said.  The Clinic represents the plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit regarding conditions at the jail, including medical and mental health care of prisoners.
