Professor Simmons Comments for Bloomberg BNA on State Board of Equalization

Professor Emeritus Daniel J. Simmons commented for Bloomberg BNA on a recent audit of the California State Board of Equalization, which found that board members use staff to promote personal events, violate budget rules that bar the agency from shifting employees from revenue-generating work to other duties such as public outreach, and other problems.

“They are politicians behaving like politicians,” said Simmons. “They have unrestrained authority in a backwater where very few people watch. But they are a large organization with lots of money on the table.”

Daniel L. Simmons is a UC Davis Professor of Law Emeritus and a national expert on tax law, with an emphasis on corporate and partnership taxation.
