Professor Simmons Co-chairs Task Force on Degrees for WWII Internees

Professor Daniel L. Simmons presented to the Board of UC Regents the recommendation of a task force, which he co-chaired with University Vice President Judy Sakaki, that Japanese Americans who left their studies at University of California campuses when they were forced into internment camps during World War II should receive honorary UC degrees.  The recommendation included regulations adoped by the Assembly of the University of California Academic Senate.  The University of California Regents unanamounsly adopted the recommendation July 16, voting to award honorary degrees to the approximately 700 students, whether living or deceased.

Daniel L. Simmons is a UC Davis Professor of Law and a national expert on tax law, with an emphasis on corporate and partnership taxation.
