Professor Shestowsky Honored with Three Premier Awards for ADR Work
Professor Donna Shestowsky won three prestigious awards for her stellar work in alternative dispute resolution.
In March, the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution honored Shestowsky and co-author Jennifer Shack with its annual Outstanding Short Article Award for “Ten Tips for Getting the Most Out of an Evaluation of your ODR Program” (Court Review, vol. 59).
In January, the Association of American Law Schools’ Litigation Section presented Shestowsky with its Scholar Award at the AALS national meeting in Washington, D.C.
The AALS Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution, which Shestowsky chaired at the time, received the Section of the Year award at the AALS annual meeting.
“I am deeply humbled by the recognition,” Shestowsky said. “These honors not only acknowledge my personal dedication to the ADR field but underscore the collaborative efforts of my colleagues and the significance of our collective work.”
“Empirical work is neither quick nor easy,” Shestowsky said of articles recognized by the two scholarship awards. “A lot of work happens behind the scenes, sometimes for years. It involves securing support from external funders, engaging the services of UC Davis Law staff members from Faculty Support, Accounting and the Mabie Law Library, and working with student research assistants. It is gratifying to see these efforts recognized.”
Shestowsky said she is grateful to the UC Davis Law community, including generous alumni who helped support her empirical research projects.
Donna Shestowsky, who has both a law degree and a Ph.D. in psychology, is Director of the Lawyering Skills Education Program and Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law. She teaches Negotiation Strategy, Lawyering Process, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and a seminar in Legal Psychology. She was the 2007 recipient of the law school's Distinguished Teaching Award.
