Professor Saucedo to Receive MALDEF Lifetime Achievement Award

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund will honor Professor Leticia Saucedo with its Excellence in Legal Service Lifetime Achievement Award on Nov. 7 at an awards gala in Los Angeles.

A Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law, Saucedo joined the UC Davis Law faculty in 2010. She is an expert in employment, labor and immigration law and the co-founder and co-director of the UC Davis Labor and Community Center of the Greater Capital Region.

In 2023, Saucedo completed a two-year, half-time appointment as MALDEF’s National Senior Counsel. Saucedo supervised beginning and mid-career MALDEF litigators, and successfully sued the Clark County, Washington Department of Public Works on behalf of three Latino employees who encountered discrimination and racial bias on the job.

Before entering academia, Saucedo spent four years as a full-time MALDEF staff attorney in San Antonio.

MALDEF’s awards gala also will honor Congresswoman Grace Napolitano and artist Robert Vargas.
