Professor Lee Speaks at National Academy of Sciences
The National Academy of Sciences recently invited Professor Peter Lee to speak at an international symposium entitled "Designing the Microbial Research Commons." The symposium gathered together intellectual property scholars, scientists, and government officials to examine ways of enhancing access to microbiological materials for basic research and commercialization.
Drawing on his research on patents in the life science, Professor Lee offered several recommendations for strengthening an international "microbial research commons." Among other comments, he emphasized the need to leverage public financing to enhance access to proprietary scientific resources as well as for greater coordination of disparate research standards.
Peter Lee is an acting Professor of Law at King Hall whose special interests include intellectual property, patent law, and property. His research examines the intersection of science and society as well as the patent system's impact on scientific and technological progress.
