Professor Larson Comments on Treason Charge for Politerati Blog

Professor Carlton Larson commented on possible treason charges against Bradley Manning for Politerati, a new blog on WhoRunsGov.com, a publication of The Washington Post Company.  Manning, an Army intelligence analyst accused of leaking classified documents to the media, is unlikely to be successfully prosecuted for treason, Professor Larson said.

In order to prove treason, prosecutors would need to be able to show that Manning was aiding or comforting the enemy, Professor Larson explained, but there is no indication of any connection between Manning and enemy forces.  "I think it would be quite a stretch to bring that charge in that case," said Professor Larson.

Professor Larson's research interests focus on constitutional law and legal history, with a strong emphasis on the 18th century.
