Professor Larson Comments on Supreme Court Ruling for Capital Public Radio
Professor Carlton Larson was a guest on Capital Public Radio's Insight program, discussing the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association, which struck down a California law banning the sale or rental of violent video games to minors.
State Senator Leland Yee, the law's author, has vowed to attempt to redraft the law in a form that the Court would accept, but, "Given what the Supreme Court told us last week, I think he has a tough road ahead of him," Professor Larson said. "The Supreme Court wrote their opinion in surprisingly broad terms," holding that video games are a protected form of expression, Larson said.
