Professor Larson Comments on ‘Calexit’ for KCRA-3 News

Professor Carlton Larson commented for a news report on Sacramento television station KCRA-3 regarding “Calexit,” a plan for California to secede from the United States.

“This is completely crazy,” said Larson. “It will never happen. There are a lot more important things people should be worrying about.”

The constitution does not allow for states leaving the union, Larson said, so a constitutional amendment would be required in order for California to secede. Such a proposal would never receive the two-thirds approval from both houses of Congress and ratification from three-fourths of the states required for an amendment, Larson said.
