Professor Joslin on Historic California Supreme Court Ruling

On May 15, 2008, the California Supreme Court issued a historic decision in In re Marriage Cases, which addressed the constitutionality of California's law banning same-sex marriages. The Court, in an opinion by Chief Justice Ron George, overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage. The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) (NCLR decision updates) was the lead counsel in the case.

Before joining the UC Davis law faculty, Professor Courtney Joslin served as a senior staff attorney at NCLR. Professor Joslin's areas of specialization include family and relationship recognition, with a focus on same-sex and nonmarital couples. Joslin co-authored the West Publishing Co. treatise for practitioners, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Family Law (2008).
