Professor Hing Publishes Immigration Op-Ed in New American Media
Professor Bill Ong Hing published a commentary on immigration reform in New American Media April 16, writing on the need to include efforts to improve the Mexican economy as part of any comprehensive reform. Professor Hing's article, "Obama Can Solve Illegal Immigration-Bail Out Mexico," points out that about 60 percent of the undocumented immigrants in the United States are Mexicans, most of whom came to the U.S. seeking work. He suggests that investing to create jobs in Mexico would address the root of the problem and provide the basis for a long-term solution.
"At the end of the day, economic investment in Mexico is what's needed to solve the undocumented migration challenge," Professor Hing states.
Bill Ong Hing, a professor at UC Davis School of Law, is recognized nationally as an immigration law and race relations expert. He is the founder of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco.
