Professor Hing Comments on Immigration Reform for New American Media
Professor Bill O. Hing commented on immigration reform for an article New American Media on recent efforts by Asian and Pacific Islander (API) groups to call attention to the need for comprehensive reform.
The article notes that while immigration is often seen as a Latino issue, Asians and Pacific Islanders have urgent needs regarding legalization of undocumented immigrants, family reunification, and other immigration issues. Last week saw a dozen API organizations come together to focus concern on immigration in the wake of the Obama administration announcement that reform probably would have to wait until 2010.
"2010 is an election year," stated Professor Hing, who said that if reform is delayed until early next year, "attention will shy away [from immigration reform] in the House."
