Professor Hing Comments on Immigration Plan
Bill Ong Hing, a professor of law and Asian American studies at UC Davis, commented on his disagreement with the newest immigration reform plan; if passed into law, immigrants with relatives already established in the United States would no longer have priority. He states that Asian family values are challenged under a sweeping US immigration reform plan that grants visas based more on skills than on family connections in the United States. Many disagree with this prospective policy. "In an era of promoting family values, proposals to eliminate family immigration categories seem entirely out of step," said Hing.
