Professor Feeney Comments on State Constitution for SF Chronicle
Professor Floyd Feeney was one of several politicians and scholars asked to respond to the question "What ideals should our state constitution hold?" for a recent story in the San Francisco Chronicle. Professor Feeney joined former Governor Pete Wilson, former Governor and current State Attorney General Jerry Brown, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome, and several other notable figures in responding.
"Our state constitution should be careful to respect the basic democratic principle - ordinary majority votes for ordinary, everyday, every-year business with supermajorities only for overriding truly fundamental principles of governance," said Professor Feeney.
Floyd Feeney is the Homer G. and Ann Berryhill Angelo Professor of Law at the UC Davis School of Law and the winner of the Law School's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986 and 2008. The author of seven books and numerous articles, Feeney has received awards from the National Institute of Justice and the California Probation, Parole, and Correctional Association, and is a nationally recognized scholar on election law.
