Professor Feeney Comments on Government Pension Initiatives
Professor Floyd Feeney commented on a pair of California initiatives that would overhaul California's government pension systems for Capital & Main, an online political journal. Professor Feeney said that the poll numbers, which indicate that voters are evenly split on the proposals, do not bode well for supporters of the initiatives.
"Generally an even split at this early stage does not bode well for an initiative," said Feeney. "Initiatives as a group tend to lose support as the battle progresses. This is a tendency, however, and not an ironclad rule. Money also counts."
Floyd Feeney is the Homer G. and Ann Berryhill Angelo Professor of Law at the UC Davis School of Law and the winner of the Law School's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986 and 2008. The author of seven books and numerous articles, Feeney has received awards from the National Institute of Justice and the California Probation, Parole, and Correctional Association, and is a nationally recognized scholar on election law.
