Professor Elmendorf Comments on State Budget Battle for TIME Magazine
Professor Chris Elmendorf commented on Governor Jerry Brown's role in the ongoing California budget battle for the June 17 issue of TIME Magazine.
In the article, Elmendorf says Brown may have underestimated how much more polarized the legislature is today than it was during his first term as governor. He adds that Brown clearly is making an effort to negotiate with legislators.
"The budget itself he proposed is the most serious budget anyone has proposed in years," Elmendorf says. "It actually doesn't rely on gimmicks, and his veto of the budget the Democrats put forth is his way of saying, 'Hey, I'm serious about this.'"
Professor Elmendorf's varied teaching and research interests include election law, administrative law, constitutional law, and property and natural resources law.
