Professor Doremus Comments on ‘Salmon Crisis" for State Legislators
Professor Holly Doremus spoke to state legislators on the problems facing California's salmon populations in a special session of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee on March 10. Professor Doremus, together with several other environmental experts, testified as to the longstanding problems responsible for the dwindling of the state's native salmon, two-thirds of which face the imminent threat of extinction.
"There is, indeed, a salmon crisis in California," Professor Doremus stated in a story on the hearing that appeared in the Sacramento Bee. "We think it's important to note that this is not new. It's as if we've waited until we've had a heart attack to seek medical attention rather than take preventive action."
Professor Holly Doremus is one of the country's leading scholars in the areas of biodiversity protection and the intersection of environmental law and natural science.
