Professor Amann Appointed to Task Force on Treaties in U.S. Law
Professor Diane Amann has been appointed to the American Society of International Law and American Bar Association Joint Task Force on Treaties in U.S. Law. The task force was created in response to Medellin v. Texas, a recent case in which the Supreme Court held that non-self-executing international treaties are not binding U.S. domestic law until Congress implements them. Along with her fellow task force members, Amann will review past and future treaties, determining their status under U.S. domestic law and recommending actions the legislative and executive branches might take to fulfill the United States' international obligations and policies.
Amann is a professor at UC Davis School of Law. Her special interests include federal jurisdiction, transnational and international criminal law, and constitutional law. She returns to Davis this fall after having spent the 2007-2008 academic year on sabattical leave and as a Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley School of Law.
