Pro Bono Trial Victory for Makesha Patterson '05
September 21, 2006. Makesha Patterson '05, a litigation associate at Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis, LLP, took her first pro bono case through the Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP) of the Bar Association of California after taking VLSP's Introduction to Landlord/Tenant Law training. Volunteering for the case provided Patterson with experience that she might not otherwise have had so early in her career. She says that volunteering provides the opportunity for attorneys to choose cases they want to work on, to work closely with individual clients, and to fight for causes that they truly believe in.
Patterson provides critical associate-level support to the litigation team in the San Francisco office of Allen Matkins. At UC Davis School of Law, she was a member of the Moot Court Board and a participant on the National Moot Court Team. Prior to graduation, she was selected as a member of the Order of the Barristers for excellence in oral advocacy and brief writing. In addition, she has her B.S. in Architectural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. While in college, she received numerous awards for excellence in engineering. She is a certified Engineer-in-Training with the State of California and a member of the Structural Engineers Association of California.
