Pregerson '76 in Top 100 California's Leading Lawyers List
The Honorable Dean D. Pregerson '76 was included in the Daily Journal's list of Top 100 California's Leading Lawyers. The Daily Journal assembles the Top 100 list in order to reflect the people at the top of the profession and the work they do. The list was released September 20, 2007.
Pregerson was nominated by President Clinton to the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 1996.
The Daily Journal noted: In an age marked by controversies over Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere, and warrantless wiretapping programs at home, Pregerson made bold decisions limiting the power of government in the past year. He declared conditions at Los Angeles County's Men's Central Jail inhumane, called for speedy reforms and extended an order limiting the number of inmates that can be held in cells. Pregerson also ruled the government cannot conduct a border search of a traveler's computer or other electronic storage device without Fourth Amendment review when he discarded evidence obtained during such a search.
