Politico Quotes Professor Joh on Police Use of Facial Recognition Tools
Professor Elizabeth Joh spoke to Politico on Jan. 19 after a group of Democratic senators demanded the Justice Department examine police use of facial recognition tools and potential violations of civil rights laws.
The letter followed the release of a report by the National Academies that concluded the technology has become so advanced that the industry needs federal oversight. Joh co-chairs the committee behind the report.
Professor Joh's scholarship focuses on criminal law and procedure, with a special emphasis on the police use of new technologies. She is the recipient of King Hall’s 2017 Distinguished Teaching Award.
