Play by Wajahat Ali '07 Featured in New York Times, MSNBC.com
"The Domestic Crusaders," a play by Wajahat Ali '07 about an immigrant Muslim family's attempts to come to terms with life in post-9/11 America, was featured in the New York Times and MSNBC.com on September 11, 2009, the date of the play's New York debut.
Ali, a Pakistani-American who grew up in Fremont before attending UC Berkeley and then King Hall, has enjoyed a successful career as a writer, contributing essays and articles to publications including The Guardian of London and The Huffington Post. He began working on the play as an undergraduate at Berkeley, hoping to help educate audiences regarding Islam and counter the negative images of Muslims in the media in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
"Domestic Crusaders is a vehicle to help bridge the divide through art," Ali told MSNBC.com.
