Ortiz '06 Receives 2007 Excellence in Education Award

Javier Ortiz '06 is the recipient of the 2007 Associated Students of the University of California, Davis, (ASUCD) Excellence in Education Award for Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies.  He is the first winner of the award for Arts and Humanities and teaches in Chicano Studies.

The ASUCD Excellence in Education Award is given by students. This award specifically highlights undergraduate teaching, the often unrecognized yet vital role that professors and lecturers play in addition to their research.

Seven awards are given:

    --College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
    --College of Biological Sciences
    --College of Engineering
    --College of Letters and Sciences
    --Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies
    --Physical Sciences
    --Social Sciences
    --Educator of the Year. The winner is selected from the recipients of the other six awards.

Undergraduate students nominate professors, lecturers, and teaching assistants. The ASUCD Academic Affairs Commission members judge and select the nominees on the basis of quality and quantity of nominations.
