The government of Mexico has honored Professor Amagda Pérez, co-director of the Immigration Law Clinic, with its Ohtli Award. The award is the highest recognition given to individuals who have opened pathways to Mexicans abroad, specifically in the United States.
Presented to Pérez by the Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento, Liliana Ferrer, during a Sept. 12 ceremony at the consulate, the Ohtli Award acknowledges Pérez’s longtime legal work on behalf of immigrants and other clients from historically underserved communities.
Pérez also serves as executive director of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, which assists farm workers and low-wage rural workers regardless of their legal status.
A double Aggie, Pérez holds a law degree (King Hall class of 1991) and a B.A. in Spanish and Chicano Studies from UC Davis. She joined the King Hall faculty in 1994, and received the law school’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2010.
