National Association of Social Workers Honors Luis Alejo '01

The National Association of Social Workers-California has named Luis Alejo '01 as its 2015 Public Citizen of the Year.

A community organizer since his teens, Alejo has worked for public service organizations including California Rural Legal Assistance and the Self-Help Center.  In 2008, he was elected to the Watsonville City Council, and in 2010 was elected to the California Assembly to represent the Monterey Coast and south Santa Clara County.  The award recognizes his work in the Legislature authoring legislation to increase the minimum wage (AB10) and to offer undocumented adults the opportunity to become licensed to drive (AB60).
