Luis Alejo ’01 to Chair Monterey County Board of Supervisors
Following a productive year as a Monterey County Supervisor and community leader, Luis Alejo ’01 will be sworn in as Chair of the Board of Supervisors on January 9. The new year will also find him taking on leadership roles as President of the Latino Caucus of California Counties and the Co-Chair of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Coastal Counties Regional Association.
Alejo served in the California Assembly from 2010-2016. He was mayor of Watsonville from 2009-2010 and city council member there from 2008-2010. As a county supervisor, Alejo recently issued a newsletter listing numerous accomplishments from 2017, including leadership work on issues of healthcare, homelessness, immigration, civil rights, water storage and safety, the environment, veterans affairs, and other issues.
