King Hall Featured in Media Coverage of Prop. 8 Hearings

National and local media repeatedly turned to King Hall for comments on last week's California Supreme Court hearings on Proposition 8.  The initiative, passed by California voters in November, amends the state constitution to ban the marriage of same-sex couples.  On March 5, the Court heard arguments challenging the measure, prompting several media outlets to seek comments from King Hall faculty and students.

Associate Dean Vikram Amar commented on the hearings on various days for, among others, the PBS program Newshour with Jim Lehrer, National Public Radio's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, the California Report (aired by California NPR affiliates), This Week in Northern California on local PBS affiliate KQED, KQED radio, KCBS radio, the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the Sacramento Bee. Professor Courtney Joslin was interviewed by local television station KCRA for a news segment that aired March 4 and was a guest on local NPR affiliate KXJZ's Insight program the same day.

Three local television stations, KXTV 10 (ABC), KOVR 13 (CBS), and KUVS 19 (Univision), visited the King Hall Student Lounge on March 5 as the hearings were being screened in a special event hosted by UC Davis Lambda Law Students.  Professor Joslin and Professor Holly Cooper were interviewed, as well as several students.
