Kenyon ’77 Receives Federal Court Honor
Charity Kenyon '77, a well known media lawyer and highly regarded First Amendment lawyer with the law firm of Riegels Campos & Kenyon, LLP, in Sacramento, California, has been selected to receive the American Inns of Court’s 2007 Professionalism Award for the Ninth Circuit. The award will be presented by the Honorable Ron R.Y. Moon, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii, at the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 16, 2007, at 4:00 p.m.
The Ninth Circuit Professionalism Award is presented annually to honor a senior practicing judge or lawyer whose life and practice display sterling character and unquestioned integrity, coupled with ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession. Candidates are nominated through circuit-wide open nominations and selected by a panel of representatives from both the circuit and the American Inns of Court Foundation.
A native of Orinda, California, Ms. Kenyon graduated from UC Santa Cruz and received her law degree from UC Davis School of Law. As a founding partner of Riegels, Campos, and Kenyon, she is a nationally renowned appellate attorney, elected to the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers in 1997. She was named the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Distinguished Attorney in 2003 and was also named the UC Davis Law School’s Outstanding Alumnus in 1997.
More impressive than a legion of awards and accolades, however, is her more than 25 years of work on behalf of civic organizations and her ceaseless efforts to raise the level of professionalism among lawyers at every level. Ms. Kenyon is active in numerous bar committees and civic organizations. She is often called on to teach journalists, newspaper editors, and fellow lawyers aspects of First Amendment and related legal topics.
She is a founding member of Sacramento’s Milton L. Schwartz American Inn of Court and served on its executive committee for four years. Nominated for her exceptional mentoring aptitude and warm friendship toward newer lawyers, she is also acknowledged for her creative and stimulating programs—many of which have been models for Inns throughout the country.
The American Inns of Court Foundation, America’s oldest, largest, and fastest growing mentoring organization, presents Professionalism Awards at participating circuits nationwide.
