Katie Couric Media Quotes Professor Larson on Fate of Trump Legal Cases

Professor Carlton F.W. Larson spoke to Katie Couric Media for a Nov. 12 story on what will happen to President-elect Donald Trump’s legal cases now that he has been re-elected as president.

Larson said Trump could still be sentenced on 34 counts of falsifying business records in the Stormy Daniels hush money case. But that “there is zero likelihood of Trump going to jail in the next two months” before his inauguration.

On Nov. 22, New York State Supreme Court Acting Justice Juan Merchan delayed Trump’s sentencing indefinitely to consider new arguments about how to proceed in light of  Trump’s election victory.

Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law Carlton Larson's research interests focus on constitutional law and legal history. One of the nation’s leading authorities on the law of treason, Professor Larson is the author of the ABA Silver Gavel Award finalist books The Trials of Allegiance: Treason, Juries, and the American Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2019) and On Treason: A Citizen’s Guide to the Law (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2020).
