Kathleen Winter '95 Wins Emily Dickinson Award

Kathleen Winter '95 has been named by the Poetry Society of America as the 2016 winner of the Emily Dickinson Award.  Winter was honored for her poem "The Porch Roof's Sky Blue Ceiling."

After graduating from King Hall in 1995, Winter clerked for the Hon. George H. King in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, then worked as a civil litigator and law use lawyer in San Francisco and Napa and Sonoma counties until 2008.  She went back to school at Arizona State, graduating in 2011 with an MFA in Creative Writing.  In 2012 her poetry book, Nostalgia for the Criminal Past, was published by Elixir Press.  Her poems have appeared in The New Republic, AGNI, Tin House, Colorado Review, Cincinnati Review, Poetry London and other journals.  She teaches literature and writing at Napa Valley College.
