Judge Lawrence Brown '89 Publishes Op-ed in Sacramento Bee
Sacramento Superior Court Judge Lawrence Brown '89 has published an essay in the Opinion section of the Sacramento Bee on the appointment process for judges in California.
"California's system strikes an ideal balance between judicial independence and accountability," writes Judge Brown, who has taught courses in administrative process at King Hall, volunteered to judge moot court and mock trial competitions, and worked with students from the King Hall Outreach Program. "Intense vetting on the front end results in appointment of fair judges who were respected even by their adversaries when they practiced law, which is telling. The six-year terms provide adequate insulation to make difficult, even unpopular decisions, while the specter of facing the electorate provides incentive not to become too imperious or tone-deaf to the communities we serve."
