John Schick '72 Comments on Huckaby Case for Stockton Record
John Schick '72, a Stockton attorney and an instructor at Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law, commented for the Stockton Record on the charges pending against Melissa Huckaby, the Tracy woman accused of the murder, kidnap, and rape of eight-year-old Sandra Cantu.
The case has drawn intense media interest, prompting San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Linda Lofthus to issue a pretrial publicity order prohibiting the attorneys directly involved from commenting. As an expert criminal defense attorney not involved in the trial, Schick was asked to comment on the trial process, and pointed out that at this point, Huckaby's defense attorney probably knows little about the prosecution's case.
"They probably have learned more about this case from what they have read in the media or seen on TV," Schick said. "That lack of information makes it really difficult for it to move forward."
