Immigration Law Clinic Wins Immigrant's Release

Immigration Law Clinic (ILC) students Grace Law '09, Jessica Foster '09, and Dong Zee '08 argued successfully in federal court for the release of a client from immigration detention after two years of confinement. On April 7, the students argued a motion for preliminary injunction before Judge Susan Illston, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. The petition for writ of habeas corpus was a collaborative effort with Zee, Law, and Foster, along with Tanya Tamling '08, Hoa Hoang '08, Cassandra Lopez '08, Wajahat Ali '07, and Chad Greeson '07. Many of the arguments in a previous Ninth Circuit brief were incorporated into the petition for writ of habeas corpus. David King '07 and Erin Hernandez '08 worked on the brief to the Ninth Circuit. Judge Illston commented that the briefing was excellent!
