Immigration Law Clinic Featured in The Daily Recorder
The Clinic takes on some of Northern California's most complex immigration law cases. "A large percentage of immigrants don't have representation," Raha Jorjani, a supervising attorney at the clinic, said in the article. "We don't have a shortage of cases."
According to the article, immigration law isn't designed along the lines of other laws. Appellate law changes often, leaving lawyers who don't specialize in immigration law at a loss.
"Even lawyers are befuddled," Holly Cooper, another supervising attorney said.
Clinic staff and students have won a number of cases over the years for immigrants seeking deportation relief and others seeking asylum. Defending clients whose lives are in the balance is hard work and often overwhelming.
"We function as a law office—but we're more like a family," said Amagda Perez, director of the Clinic.
