Holly Cooper Comments on Supreme Court Immigration Case for Law 360
Holly S. Cooper commented for Law 360 on Mata v. Holder, the U.S. Supreme Court case concerning whether a federal appeals court can review the Board of Immigration Appeals' refusal to toll deadlines to reopen cases based on ineffective lawyering. Cooper said such review is critically important to ensuring all immigrants have the right to a fair hearing.
"Without equitable tolling, there will be no way for them to ever achieve due process - to have their case ever just heard," Cooper said. "And so it's such an important issue that's going up [to the Supreme Court]."
