Hing Speaks on Immigration at UC Center in Sacramento
Professor of Law Bill Ong Hing spoke at the University of California Center Sacramento. His talk, "Deporting Our Souls: Social/Cultural Dimensions of Immigration," was held on September 28, 2007.
Hing is the author of Deporting Our Souls: Values, Morality, and Immigration Policy. In the book, Hing discusses the major immigration policy areas—undocumented workers, the immigration selection system, deportation of aggravated felons, national security and immigration policy, and the integration of new Americans—and he suggest his own proposals on how to address the policy challenges from a perspective that encourages people to consider the moral consequences of decisions.
Hing teaches judicial process, negotiations, and public service strategies, and he directs the Law School clinical program. Throughout his career, he has pursued social justice by combining community work, litigation, and scholarship. He is the author of numerous academic and practice-oriented books and articles on immigration policy and race relations.
