Hing Comments on State Work Permit Bill

Bill Ong Hing, a professor of law with special interests in immigration policy, commented to the Sacramento Bee on the introduction of a bill by a California assemblyman who says he's tired of waiting for Congress to change immigration laws. Assemblyman Rick Keene, R-Chico, introduced his proposed "Employer Security and Accountability Act" to the Assembly's labor committee on Thursday, March 29, 2007. The bill would create a state work permit for non-U.S. citizens, including undocumented workers.

Hing said in the article that the bill was dead on arrival because the state has no power over immigration law.
