Eve Brown '05 Hosts Mock Trials for Shakespeare Characters at Indiana University

Eve Brown '05, a Business Law lecturer at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, will host mock trials of Shakespeare characters as part of Indiana University's Intensive Freshman Seminar program.  Brown will put characters including Hamlet and Macbeth on trial for murder in her three-week course "Shakespeare and the Law" in an effort to help incoming freshmen learn about Shakespeare, law, and college life just prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

Brown, who majored in English as an undergraduate at Skidmore College, conceived of the course while practicing law in San Diego prior to her joining the Indiana University faculty.   "I started wondering how I could merge my two seemingly unrelated passions--literature and law," she told IU Home Pages. "Out of that came the concept of orchestrating mock trials based on famous works of literature."
