Dean Johnson Ranks High on Most-Cited Scholars List for Public Law

Dean Kevin R. Johnson ranks 11th on University of Chicago Law Professor Brian Leiter’s list of most-cited public law scholars.

The public law rankings cover 2016-2020 and include faculty writing about administrative law, environmental law, legislation, regulation and immigration law. (Johnson is an internationally acclaimed immigration law scholar).

Johnson shares the No. 11 spot on the public law list with Vanderbilt Law School Associate Dean Lisa Bressman.

Earlier this month, Professors William S. Dodge and Gabriel “Jack” Chin made Leiter’s breakout lists for scholarly impact in international law and criminal law and procedure. Leiter recognized Dodge as the 15th most cited international law and security scholar and Chin as among “other highly cited scholars who work partly in this area” in criminal law and procedure.

UC Davis Law’s faculty placed 22nd on the Leiter list of “Top 50 Law Faculties in Scholarly Impact, 2021” -- up a spot since 2018, the last time rankings were compiled.

Kevin R. Johnson is the law school’s dean, Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and professor of Chicana/o studies at UC Davis. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
