Dean Johnson, Professor Hing Comment on Immigration and Presidential Race
Dean Kevin R. Johnson and Professor Bill Ong Hing were quoted in a recent Sacramento Bee article examining undocumented immigration and the 2008 presidential election. The October 10 article, “Candidates silence on immigration irks Latinos,” notes that while immigration has largely disappeared from the campaign as candidates have focused on the economy, Latino voters may decide the outcome in several critical states. Dean Johnson and Professor Hing are advising the campaign of Democratic candidate Barack Obama on immigration issues.
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
Bill Ong Hing, a professor at UC Davis School of Law, is recognized nationally as an immigration law and race relations expert. He is the founder of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco.
