Cobar '00 Legal Adviser in Iraq

Marlon Cobar '00, assistant U.S. attorney in Fresno, heads to Iraq as a resident legal adviser. He will be one of only eight legal advisers sent from the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), an organization within the Department of Justice that assists in the coordination of training judges and prosecutors abroad. Cobar will also give advice about human rights and ethical issues that lawyers, prosecutors, and judges in Iraq might face. "We're not going over there to take over," Cobar said in a Fresno Bee article. "We'll be assisting the Iraqis in taking the reins of their justice system."
