Clint Bolick '82 Featured in NPR Story
A report by Clint Bolick '82, director of the Goldwater Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, figured prominently in a recent National Public Radio story on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio has drawn national attention for controversial neighborhood sweeps rounding up undocumented immigrants and his department has been featured in Smile, You're Under Arrest, a Fox network program that uses elaborate set-ups to lure unsuspecting fugitives to arrest.
Bolick's report, "Mission Unaccomplished: The Misplaced Priorities of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office," notes the county's high violent crime rate, the department's slow 911 response time, inadequate health care in the county jail, and other problems and criticizes Arpaio for directing resources into high-profile immigration sweeps and projects such as Smile, You're Under Arrest rather than addressing these problems.
Before joining the Goldwater Institute, a conservative libertarian organization that studies public policy in Arizona, Bolick served as president and general counsel for the Alliance for School Choice, a nonprofit educational policy group. He is a co-founder and former vice president of the libertarian public-interest law firm Institute for Justice.
